Cover Kitchen Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

If your Cover kitchen has a failed cabinet hinge, a warped drawer front, or a countertop seam that’s opened up, we stock and install Cover-compatible replacement parts and deliver a full kitchen remodel in San Francisco for $16,520 to $53,100. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer stops closing flush, a soft-close mechanism goes dead, or the melamine edge starts peeling back from moisture. We match the part to your model, give you a written price before any work starts, and you’re not stuck guessing whether the fix will hold.

Bradford Remodeling Co San Francisco is an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Cover, but we work with their cabinet lines, hardware specs, and countertop profiles regularly. We also stock and install parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone.

Here’s what you need to know before spending a dollar on parts or labor.

  • Installed range in San Francisco: $16,520 to $53,100 for a full Cover kitchen remodel; partial repairs start lower depending on the failed part.
  • Compatibility matters: Cover uses specific hinge bore patterns and drawer slide lengths. The wrong part looks close and fails in six months.
  • Written price, always: You get a line-item quote before tools come out. No numbers that move at the door.
  • 365-Day Done Right Promise: If the work fails inside a year, we return and correct it at no charge.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s kitchen line spans several series, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The big gotcha: Cover has used at least three different hinge mounting plates across their cabinet lines over the past decade. A hinge from a 2018 Cover kitchen will not necessarily fit a 2023 Cover kitchen. The bore pattern (how far the cup sits from the door edge) and the mounting screw spacing are the two measurements that decide compatibility. Check the inside of a cabinet door for a small printed label, usually near the hinge. It will list the part number and sometimes the series.

Here’s the honest OEM-vs-aftermarket breakdown for Cover specifically. Cover OEM hinges and drawer slides are often manufactured by Blum or Salice. If you buy the aftermarket version of that same Blum hinge, it will usually fit and function identically. Where aftermarket goes wrong is the no-name hardware that mimics the look but strips screw holes or sags within months. Cabinet boxes and face frames are a different story. Those are made to Cover’s panel sizes and finishes. For replacement panels, doors, or drawer fronts, you want parts cut to match your exact door profile and edge banding. We work with a local mill shop in San Francisco that matches Cover’s finishes and edge options.

One more compatibility note that catches a lot of San Francisco owners: older Cover kitchens in Pacific Heights, Noe Valley, and the Richmond tend to have 5/8-inch cabinet sides. Newer builds use 3/4-inch. If you try to mount a new drawer slide designed for 3/4-inch stock on a 5/8-inch cabinet side, the screws won’t bite properly and the slide will fail under load.

Signs Your Cover Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Drawer no longer closes flush, or drops when open. This is usually a worn-out drawer slide or a mounting screw that’s stripped out of the cabinet side. The slide loses its ball bearings or the nylon rollers crack. In San Francisco’s older homes, we also see this when the floor has settled and the cabinet box is no longer square.
  • Soft-close mechanism stopped working. The damper inside the hinge or slide is shot. On Cover kitchens, the soft-close piston is built into the hinge cup on most doors. Once it goes, the door slams. There’s no adjusting it back.
  • Melamine edge banding is peeling or chipping at the bottom of doors and drawer fronts. This is moisture damage. Under a sink, behind a dishwasher, or anywhere steam collects. Curtis Lane has seen this in Outer Sunset kitchens where fog-driven moisture works its way in from unsealed exterior walls and settles on cabinet surfaces.
  • Countertop seam has opened up, or the laminate is lifting at the edge. Cover countertops use a post-formed laminate profile in many models. Once water gets under the laminate at the seam or the drip edge, it swells the substrate. That’s not a caulk-and-forget fix. The affected section needs to be replaced and the seam resealed properly.
  • Hinges sagging and doors no longer align, even after adjusting. The hinge plate screws have stripped the cabinet side, or the hinge itself is worn. You can shim behind a hinge plate once. The second time it fails, the hinge is done.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

A complete Cover kitchen remodel in San Francisco runs $16,520 to $53,100. Smaller scoped work, like replacing all hardware, re-facing doors, or swapping a countertop section, falls below that. A cabinet installation (new boxes, doors, and hardware) runs $4,720 to $15,340. Countertop installation by itself: $2,360 to $7,670. If you’re pulling out a failed island and rebuilding it: $3,540 to $11,800.

What moves the number is pretty predictable. Cabinet count, countertop square footage, electrical rough-in that needs to be brought to current code, and the condition of the substrate when we open the wall. Most San Francisco kitchens we see have at least one water-damaged section of subfloor or drywall behind the sink base. We don’t hide that in change orders. The written quote addresses it up front, and if we find something after demo that wasn’t visible, we stop and put the new number in writing before any further work.

Every line item is broken out: parts, labor, disposal, and any code-required upgrades. You’re not paying a lump sum. You’re paying a documented scope. And the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers everything we install. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at close-out.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can check safely. Adjusting a hinge screw, tightening a loose drawer slide, or cleaning a gunked-up soft-close mechanism are all reasonable homeowner tasks. If the hinge is bent or the screw spins without tightening, stop. The stripped hole means the cabinet side is compromised. Driving a longer screw often punches through the cabinet interior or splits the panel. That’s how a $12 hinge replacement turns into a $300 panel repair.

Countertop and cabinet panel replacement is not a homeowner job. Cutting laminate cleanly, matching a Cover edge profile, and getting the seam flat requires a shop setup. If you attempt it with a circular saw and a tube of construction adhesive, the seam will telegraph through and fail again. We’re the crew you call when you want it done once.
