Atlas Kitchen Remodeling: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide
If you have Atlas cabinetry or an Atlas-finished kitchen and something has failed, we stock the parts and know the systems. Atlas kitchen remodeling in San Francisco typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope, but a component-level repair is far less. Most owners call us when a door has pulled from its hinge, a drawer slide has seized, or a corner cabinet’s hardware has started grinding. We can usually diagnose the issue over the phone and have the right part on the truck for the first visit.
Atlas cabinet lines use a specific European-style cup hinge with a 35mm bore. If you are replacing a single door or a run of drawers, matching that bore depth and the overlay measurement is the difference between a door that sits flush and one that hangs proud. We keep those hinges, slides, and drawer glides in our San Francisco shop because they fail on a schedule in this climate. Fog-driven humidity in the Sunset and Richmond loosens hinge screws over time. In older San Francisco homes with steam radiators, drawer glides collect a fine rust that turns smooth operation into a fight.
We are an independent San Francisco contractor, not affiliated with Atlas. That means we are not bound to factory-only parts. When an OEM Atlas part is backordered or priced badly, we can tell you what a quality aftermarket equivalent costs and whether it will hold up the same. The decision stays yours.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas kitchens in San Francisco run the range from mid-2000s framed cabinetry to more recent frameless lines. The key identifier on any Atlas cabinet is the hinge cup stamping on the door interior. Blum hardware is common on Atlas frameless cabinets, while some framed lines used Grass or Salice. The stamp tells us the series, and the series tells us what will fit without re-boring the door.
We ask every homeowner to check two numbers before we come out. First is the cabinet’s overall door overlay, which for Atlas is almost always 1/2-inch or 1-1/4-inch, though some full-overlay frameless doors run wider. Second is the drawer slide length, which Atlas typically ran at 18 or 21 inches. A 21-inch slide will not drop into an 18-inch carcass, and no amount of adjusting will make it work.
On the material side, Atlas used a mix of maple, birch, and thermofoil door fronts depending on the year. Thermofoil finish failures, common on mid-2010s doors in San Francisco’s coastal fog zone, are a frequent call. The foil lifts from the MDF core and the door becomes impossible to clean. We can match the door profile and order a replacement, or reface the entire run with a new door style.

Signs Your Atlas Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Doors no longer close square. The hinge has worn or the mounting plate has pulled loose from the cabinet side panel. In San Francisco’s older balloon-frame houses, the cabinet box itself may have shifted as the wall settled, pulling the whole assembly out of alignment.
- Drawers stick on one side or drop when extended. The slide’s ball bearing race has worn unevenly, or one of the nylon rollers has cracked. This is repairable at the component level without replacing the drawer box.
- Lazy Susan or corner hardware grinds. Atlas corner units used a metal pivot with plastic bushings. Those bushings crack after enough cycles and the pole starts riding metal on metal. The fix is a new pivot kit and bushing set, not a new cabinet.
- Soft-close mechanism no longer catches. The small dampened cylinder inside the hinge or slide has lost its oil charge. You can swap the hinge for a soft-close unit or replace just the cylinder depending on the Atlas series.
- Thermofoil peeling at the bottom edge of doors or drawer fronts. Moisture has gotten into the MDF and de-bonded the foil. This is the one failure that usually means either replacement doors or a refacing project, because patching thermofoil rarely holds for more than a few months.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Francisco, a component-level Atlas repair runs from roughly $150 to $600 when we are addressing a single door, drawer, or hinge set. A door replacement on an Atlas cabinet is usually $75 to $250 per door depending on wood species and finish matching. Full refacing, where we replace every door and drawer front on an Atlas kitchen and re-skin the boxes, lands between $8,500 and $18,000. A complete Atlas kitchen remodel, including box replacement, counters, and finish work, runs $16,520 to $53,100.
Every price includes the part, the labor to install and align it, and disposal of the failed component. More important, you get a written price before the work starts. No number moves at the door. If the door or drawer still does not sit right after we leave, our 365-Day Done Right Promise brings us back at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
There are three things worth checking yourself on an Atlas kitchen. First, tighten the hinge mounting screws. A loose screw makes a good hinge look dead, and hand-tightening a Phillips is within anyone’s ability. Second, check whether a drawer is genuinely seized or just out of its track. If the slide box and the rail have separated, reseating the drawer usually takes a firm lift and push. Third, look at the hinge cup to see if the stamped brand is Blum, Grass, or Salice and note the series number for us.
What you should not do is try to re-bore a hinge cup, re-mortise a door, or mount a 3/4-inch overlay hinge on a door cut for 1-1/4-inch overlay. The geometry is not forgiving, and a door that hangs wrong or falls off can crack the toe kick or hurt someone. We have corrected enough of those field repairs on San Francisco jobsites to be direct about it: it is cheaper to call us first. Call (831) 610-5598 and describe the failure. We will likely send the right part with the first trip.
FAQs

Atlas cabinetry typically delivers 20 to 30 years of service, but the climate shortens that for doors and hardware in fog-heavy San Francisco neighborhoods. The boxes hold up; hinges, drawer slides, and thermofoil fronts fail first and are replaceable. Call (831) 610-5598 for an exact quote, and we will tell you whether a component fix or a refacing makes more sense.
Most Atlas drawer slides are not serviceable once the ball race or roller has cracked, and we replace the slide rather than attempt a repair. The exception is a slide that has simply come loose from the cabinet or drawer box, which is a tightening fix. Call (831) 610-5598 and we will help you figure out which one you have.
A single hinge or slide replacement in an Atlas kitchen usually takes under an hour on site. Matching door and drawer front replacements take longer because we need a few days to order the profile and finish from the supplier. Call (831) 610-5598 and we will give you a straight answer on timing after seeing a photo.
We stock common Atlas hinge series, drawer slides, and corner unit pivots in our San Francisco shop, along with matching touch-up and finish materials for the door styles we see most often. For less common Atlas runs, we order from our suppliers and usually have the part within a few business days. Call (831) 610-5598 for a free estimate and we will let you know what is on the shelf today.
Straight number, real scope, no surprises at close-out.
