Cambria Windows & Doors: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible windows and doors throughout San Francisco, and most replacement parts run $470 to $2,950 installed depending on what failed. You’ll usually know something’s wrong before you can name it: a window that won’t lock, a door that drags against the jamb, condensation fogging between panes that won’t wipe off. Those are signs that a specific component has worn out, not that the whole unit needs to be scrapped. The good news is that Cambria parts are documented well enough that a disciplined crew can match the failed part to your exact unit and get it back to square, usually without replacing the entire frame.

Bradford Remodeling Co San Francisco is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Cambria, and we don’t pretend to be. What we do is keep our parts knowledge current and our pricing written down before the truck rolls.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

Cambria window and door units fall into a few recognizable series, and parts for them are not universal. The two you’ll see most in San Francisco homes are the older single-hung and slider lines that went into mid-century and 80s-era construction, plus the newer tilt-pack double-hung units common in remodels done over the last fifteen years. The compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: the balance assembly for a tilt-pack Cambria window is sized by sash weight and channel width, not by the overall window width. Two windows that look identical from across the room can take different balances because the glass package differs. If you’re hunting a part yourself, remove the sash and look for a laser-etched code on the frame edge or a sticker inside the head track. Photograph it before you call anyone. It saves a service trip.

For Cambria specifically, we recommend OEM parts on anything that carries structural load: balances, hinges, lock-point hardware, and flush bolts. Aftermarket equivalents are fine for weatherstripping, glazing beads, and screen spline. The OEM parts carry Cambria’s own dimensional tolerances, and on a door or oversized window, a sixteenth of an inch is the difference between smooth and binding. We also stock compatible hardware for KraftMaid, Silestone, and Kohler, but this page is about Cambria, so we’ll stay on it.

Signs Your Cambria Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Window won’t stay up, or drops hard when you close it. The balance system has lost tension. On Cambria tilt-packs this is almost always a worn coil or block-and-tackle balance, and both can be swapped without pulling the frame.
  • Door drags or catches at the top corner. Usually a hinge that’s sagged from years of San Francisco fog working on the screwhole threads, or a door panel that’s absorbed enough moisture from bay air to swell slightly. It’s fixable without replacing the door.
  • Lock or latch won’t engage without forcing it. The door or window sash has shifted out of plane, and the lock-point no longer lines up with the keeper. Forcing it just bends hardware, which then has to be replaced too.
  • Fog between the panes that won’t wipe off. The insulated glass unit seal has failed. This means moisture is now trapped between panes, and no cleaning product touches it. The fix is a new IGU, not a new window frame.
  • Draft you can feel with the unit closed and locked. Weatherstripping has compressed over time, or the weep system is clogged so water sits in the track and draws cold air through. In Outer Sunset homes especially, this is the difference between a warm living room and a heating bill that climbs all winter.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

In San Francisco, Cambria window and door part replacements run $470 to $2,950 installed, and the spread is driven by what failed. A balance replacement or weatherstripping refresh on a single window lands at the low end. A new insulated glass unit for a large fixed pane or a full hinge-set replacement on a heavy patio door lands at the top. Some jobs brush against $3,000 when the failed part wore out a secondary component and that has to be corrected too.

We write the price down before work starts. That price includes the part, labor, disposal of the old component, site cleanup, and the written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails inside that year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s the whole deal, no fine print beyond the scope document you sign. The Garrison Standard is the framework we operate under: every price in writing before a tool comes out, and every guarantee in your hand at close-out.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things you can safely do yourself: clean the tracks, clear the weep holes, tighten visible hinge screws, and photograph the sticker or code on your sash. That’s real prep work that saves a diagnostic trip.

What I’d stop you from doing is pulling a tilt-pack sash if you’ve never done it before, because the spring-loaded balances release with real force and will take a chunk out of drywall or a finger. I’d also tell you not to replace an IGU yourself, not because it’s impossible, but because seating the glass in a Cambria frame without the right setting blocks means a seal that fails again inside the first year, and then you’ve paid twice. Curtis Lane has seen enough botched DIY sash pulls in San Francisco to say plainly: if the part under tension, or the part that seals against weather, let a trained tech handle it. Call (831) 610-5598 and we’ll get it on the schedule.
