ES Windows Driveway & Pavers: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

We stock and install driveway and paver components sized to work with ES Windows product openings across San Francisco. Installed replacement work on paver driveways in this market runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, substrate condition, and paver type. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a low spot forms near a gate or threshold, water starts pooling against the ES Windows door frame, and within a season the pavers have shifted enough that the window or door no longer clears the finished surface. We carry paver stock, base material, edge restraint, and drainage components on our trucks, so a typical repair moves to installation within days, not weeks.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

A remodeled primary suite with built-in wardrobes and a window seat

This work applies to any ES Windows product that sits at grade or near a finished paver surface: sliding door systems, French door configurations, and fixed window units installed low on a wall. The compatibility issue is not the window itself but the flashing and threshold clearance. ES Windows frames are engineered to tight tolerances, and the factory threshold expects a finished surface that drains away from the opening. When pavers settle even half an inch, water that should sheet away instead runs back toward the frame. In San Francisco, the fog belt in the Outer Sunset and the Richmond creates a particular problem: constant moisture, clay-heavy fill under older driveways, and temperature swings that work pavers loose seasonally.

We identify the right fix by measuring the gap between the bottom of the ES Windows frame and the top of the paver surface, then checking the slope across the first four feet. The OEM flashing and sill details on ES Windows are specific to the series, and we match aftermarket base and edge components to the existing frame rather than shimming or caulking around a bad substrate. For most San Francisco homes, a quality aftermarket paver and polymer sand from Belgard or Unilock performs as well as what the original builder used, provided the base is recompacted and the edge restraint is sound. We also carry parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone installations, but this page is about getting your pavers right under an ES Windows opening.

Signs Your ES Windows Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Water pooling at the threshold. The finished paver surface has settled below the ES Windows frame, and runoff no longer drains away from the opening. This is the first sign, and it means the base under the pavers has started to fail.
  • Pavers rocking underfoot near the window line. Individual pavers move when you step on them because the sand bed has washed out or the base was never compacted properly. The movement gets worse through each wet season.
  • Visible gap between pavers and the window frame. A gap wider than a quarter inch at the sill means the edge restraint has let go and the paver field is creeping outward. Water and debris get into that gap and accelerate the damage.
  • Cracks forming in a diagonal line from the corner of the window. This usually points to a drainage problem under the surface, not just a surface crack. Water has been getting under the pavers and eroding the base in a channel.
  • Efflorescence or white staining on the ES Windows frame bottom. Moisture is wicking up from the paver surface and evaporating against the metal. That white deposit means the frame has been sitting wet, which shortens the life of the finish.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled staircase with wood treads and a slim metal railing

Installed paver driveway work in San Francisco runs $8,260 to $21,240. The spread comes down to three things: how much of the base has to be rebuilt, what paver you’re matching, and how much of the field has to come out to fix the slope. A small section near an ES Windows threshold with good base underneath sits at the low end. A full driveway with rotted base, failed edge restraint, and a slope correction runs toward the high end. Every price we give is a written number before work starts. No reprice at the door, no change order surprise.

The written price includes removal and disposal of the failed pavers, base recompaction or replacement, new bedding sand, paver reinstallation, edge restraint, polymer sand in the joints, and a final slope check against the ES Windows frame. And the whole job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the work fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard in writing, and Curtis Lane signs it.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things an owner can safely check: whether water drains away from the ES Windows opening after a rain, and whether any individual paver rocks under foot. Both tell you the same thing: the base has failed or the edge is loose. What you should not do is pull up pavers and start re-leveling with bagged sand from a big-box store. The base under a paver driveway is a compacted structural layer, and if that layer has washed out or settled, putting new sand on top of it buys you one season at best. In San Francisco’s wet winters, it often buys less than that.

We’re not going to tell you this is a two-hour Saturday job. It’s not. But we will tell you exactly what’s wrong and what it costs to fix before you spend a dollar. Straight number, real scope, no surprises at close-out. Call (831) 610-5598 and we’ll put it in writing.
