Tremron Driveway & Pavers: The San Francisco Owner’s Guide

If your Tremron pavers have shifted, cracked, or sunk, the fix usually runs between $826 and $2,124 per affected section here in San Francisco, depending on how much base repair is needed and how many pavers have to come out. We stock Tremron-compatible pavers and matching joint sand on the truck, so most driveway and patio repairs don’t wait on a special order. You’ll typically notice the problem first as a low spot that holds water after rain, a paver that rocks underfoot, or a stretch of edging that’s pulling away from the driveway line.

Most San Francisco paver failures we see are not the paver itself failing. The paver is usually fine. What fails is what’s underneath it: the sand bed settles, the base erodes, or tree roots in the Outer Sunset and Richmond District push upward through the compacted base. The Tremron paver just goes along for the ride. That’s why the right repair starts with lifting the pavers, fixing the base, and re-compacting in lifts rather than just swapping out visible pieces.

Which Tremron Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Tremron manufactures its paver lines in Florida and Georgia, but the product shows up regularly in San Francisco driveways, walkways, and patios because of its high compressive strength and tight dimensional tolerances. The compatibility question matters more than most homeowners think. Tremron makes several series: Estate Stone, Olde Towne, Mega Olde Towne, and the larger-format Riverside line. They are not interchangeable. A paver from the Olde Towne series is a different height, different edge profile, and different surface texture than a Mega Olde Towne unit, even when the face dimensions look similar at a glance.

Before we order or pull anything, we verify the series by checking the underside of a lifted paver for the Tremron name stamp and a lot code, then we measure thickness with a caliper. Most Tremron driveway pavers run 60mm thick, but some patio-only lines are 50mm. Mixing a 50mm paver into a 60mm driveway creates a trip edge and a crack point within the first season. If the exact Tremron series is discontinued or no longer produced, we’ll match with a manufacturer-specified equivalent from Belgard or Unilock that carries the same thickness and a documented ASTM C936 rating, and we’ll show you the spec sheet before any work starts.

One more thing worth knowing: Tremron’s color blends are mixed per production run. A new paver from a different run can be visibly lighter or darker than your existing field. For repairs larger than a few units, we open and dry-lay the new pavers before setting anything so you can see the color match in daylight, not under a warehouse LED. Bradford Remodeling Co San Francisco is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with Tremron, but we stock a working inventory of the most common San Francisco Tremron profiles and match the rest direct from distributor lots.

Signs Your Tremron Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Low spots that pond water after rain. This means the sand bedding has washed out or the base beneath has settled unevenly. Left alone, the low spot spreads and starts pulling adjacent pavers into it.
  • Pavers that rock or shift when you step on them. The bedding layer under that paver is gone or loose. A rocking paver cracks at its corners first, because the load concentrates on two points instead of spreading across the whole unit.
  • Weeds sprouting through the joints in thick clusters. Joint sand has eroded, which lets organic matter collect and weeds root. More importantly, when joint sand goes, the pavers lose lateral lock and start drifting apart.
  • Edge pavers pulling away and creating a gap at the border. The edge restraint has failed. Without a solid edge, the whole field loses compression and the outer courses walk outward under traffic.
  • White hazy spots or spider cracking on paver faces. This is efflorescence or freeze-thaw spalling. In San Francisco’s wet, cool cycles near the coast, pavers with absorbed moisture can crack internally, and the failure shows as network lines across the face.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

For a typical paver driveway repair in San Francisco, you’re looking at $826 to $2,124 for a section repair that includes lifting the affected pavers, removing and replacing the failed base material, re-compacting, re-laying the pavers, and re-sanding the joints. A full driveway re-installation runs $8,260 to $21,240, which covers the complete excavation, base installation, paver field, edge restraint, and final compaction, written as a fixed price before we start.

What drives the range: how many pavers are damaged beyond reuse, how deep the base failure goes, whether we’re repairing a flat driveway or a sloped section that needs additional drainage work, and whether your existing pavers can be cleaned and reused or need replacement. The written price includes labor, materials, haul-off of the failed base, and the paver material itself, with no numbers that move at the door. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if your repaired section fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: walk the field and mark low spots with chalk after the next rain, lift one or two loose pavers and note the condition of the sand under them, and watch whether the joints are missing sand after a heavy storm. Those observations help you know whether you’re dealing with a surface issue or a base issue. What we’d stop you from doing is renting a plate compactor, pulling up a large section, and re-compacting the base without a proper subgrade evaluation. If the base wasn’t installed deep enough originally, or drainage is moving water through the subgrade, you’ll re-lay the same problem and spend a weekend doing it.

Paver work is not dangerous in the way that torsion springs or live electrical are, but it’s physically punishing on the back and knees, and compounding a bad base with a good paver top just moves the failure date forward. If you’re in a fog belt neighborhood like the Outer Sunset, the moisture cycle means a poorly compacted base shows its fault lines within the first winter. We’ll fix the base, pack it in lifts, and give you a straight number for the whole thing before the first paver lifts. Call (831) 610-5598 and we’ll set a time to look at it.
